Carnial bone
Bone of the skull or brain case.
Facial bone
Any of 14 cranial bones that make up the faceal: maxillae (2); nasal(2); palatine (2); inferior nasal conchae (2); mandible (1); zygoma (2); lacrimal (2); vomer (1).
Suture
The immovable connections between the skull bones of adults.
Hyoid bone
Horseshoe-shaped bone at the base of the tongue. Supports the larynx and is the attachment site for muscles of the larynx, pharynx, and tongue.
Vertebrae
33 bony segments of the spinal column: 7 cervical, 12 thoracic, 5 lumbar, 5 sacrum, and 4 coccygeal vertebrae.
Ribs
(Costae) are long, curved flattened bones that originate on or between the thoracic vertebrae and end in the wall of the thoracic cavity. Humans have 12 pairs with 7 called the true ribs, or vertebrosternal ribs. Ribs 8-12 are called false ribs, because they do not attach directly to the sternum
Sternum
(Breastbone) is a flat bone that forms in the anterior midline of the thoracic wall.
Pectoral girdle
(Shoulder girdle) forms the a joint for each arm to articulate consisting of two S-shaped clavicles and two broad, flat scapulae
Clavicle
S-shaped bones that originate at the superior lateral border of the manubrium of the sternum, lateral to the jugular notch.
Scapula
Large, flat, triangular bone that forms the posterior part of the shoulder that articulates with the clavicle and the humerus.
Humerus
The arm, or brachium, contains only one bone known as the humerus. It extends from the scapula to the elbow.
Radius
The lateral bone of the forearm (antebrachium).
Ulna
The medial bone of the forearm (antebrachium).
Carpals
Wrist bones that contains eight carpal bones each: one row of 4 proximal carpal bones and one row of 4 distal carpal bones.
Metacarpals
The body of the hand, attached to the forearm at the wrist having 5 bones.
Phalanges
Bones of the fingers or toes. The fingers contain 14 bones on each hand and the toes contain 14 bones on each foot.
Pelvic girdle
Bones that attach the lower limbs to the axial skeleton; the two innominate or hip bones and consists of 3 fused bones: ilium, ischium, and pubis.
Femur
The longest and heaviest bone in the human body that articulates at the hip joint and with the tibia of the leg at the knee joint.
Tibia
Shinbone, or large medial bone of the leg.
Fibula
Slender bone that parallels the lateral border of the tibia.
Tarsals
The ankle bones, consisting of 7 tarsal bones.
Metatarsals
Five long bones that form the distal portion of the foot.
Acromial
Shoulder
Angle of Louis
Anatomical landmark located on the sternum felt as a notch at the top of the sternum.
