Q

What happens to the rate of photosynthesis as you increase the light intensity?

A

Increases, however, there comes a point where the rate NO LONGER INCREASES .

16
Q

Why does the rate of photosynthesis stop increasing with the increase of light intensity?

A

As something else is now in short supply e.g. level of CO2 (LIMITING FACTOR).

17
Q

What happens to the rate of photosynthesis as you increase the temperature?

A

INCREASES, as the enzymes work faster. However, if we keep increasing temperature enzymes will DENATURE (DECREASING the rate).

18
Q

Describe a method to see how pond weed is affected by light intensity.

A
  1. Fill the beaker with water, put the pond weed in the beaker.
  2. Move the light close to the pond weed, Count amount of BUBBLES produced in one minute/measure oxygen produced.
  3. Repeat experiment but move the light closer/further away from the pond weed each time.
  4. To make it a fair test, use same AMOUNT OF WATER, same LENGTH/VOLUME of POND WEED and TIME for one min.
19
Q

What is meant by inverse square law?

A

For instance, if you DOUBLE the DISTANCE, the LIGHT INTENSITY will HALVE (vice versa).

20
Q

What is the role of the xylem?

A

Transports water in the transpiration system

21
Q

What is the role of the pholem?

A

It transports dissolved sugars using translocation.
