What is the test for non-reducing sugars?

A

Boil new sample with `HCl in a water bath
neutralise with sodium hydrogen carbonate
conduct benedicts test
positive- red/orange precipitate so reducing sugar present
negative- remains blue so no sugar present

Describe how glycogen’s structure relates to its function

A

lots of branches and short chains that can easily be broken off for fast energy release. Very compact so good for storage
