Biology Flashcards
(59 cards)
Smooth Endplasmic Reticulum
folded emebrane, no ribosomes, lipid synthesis
Rough Endplasmic Reticulum
site for protein synthesis, folded membrane, with ribosomes
Cell wall
rigid structure, surrounds cell, gives shape to plant cells
Ribosome
made in nucleolus, in rough ER, floating in cytoplasm, protein synthesis
Chloroplast
double membrane, contains chlorophyll (green), photosynthesis
Mitochondria
double membrane, cellular respiration / energy
Golgi body
folded membrane, near ERs, modifies proteins, lipids
Nucleolus
(darker), in nucleus, ribosome production
Nucleus
contains genetic information, cellular control centre
Nuclear Envelope
double membrane, seperates genetic material
Interphase
cell grows, chromosomes (being read) duplicated, more organelles
Prophase
chromosomes condensed (sister chromatids), nuclear envelope disappears, centrioles move to poles, spindle fibres
Metaphase
Chromosomes line up on equator, spindle fibres attach to centromeres
Anaphase
Sister chromatids seperate at centromeresm spindle fibres shorten
Telophase
Chromosomes begin to decondense (chromatin), spindle fibres disappear
Cytokinesis
splitting of cytoplasm –> 2 daughter cells, identical genetic informations
Cancer Cell Diffrences
Uncontrollable divison, no useful work, can metastasize
Cardiac Circuit
Within heart
Pulmonary Circuit
To/from lungs
Systemic Circuit
To/from body
Artery adaption
thick muscle walls, handles high pressure
Vein adaption
valves, prevents backflow
Capillary adaption
small circumfrence, efficient diffusion
Aorta
heart –> aorta –> ox to body
