Biology Cell Life Flashcards
(8 cards)
What is the cell theory?
All living things are made of cells, cells come from cells, and cells are the base unit of structure and foundation for living things.
What is the main idea of the early microscope?
The invention of microscopes led to the discovery of cells. Microscopes show that cork consists of cells and that there are organisms present in pond water.
What is a light microscope?
A microscope the passes light through a specimen. A specimen can be alive and the specimen is usually a cell. Light microscopes are the most commonly used in the school curriculum.
What is an electron microscope
A microscope that uses an electron beam and are more powerful than light microscopes. The specimen MUST be dead.
Transmission electron microscope
Samples must be thinly sliced, provides an internal view, and provides a 2D image.
Scanning electron microscope
Produces a 3D image, the specimen can remain untouched, but computers have to add a false color.
Prokaryote
Small, unicellular, no nucleus, with very few organelles, and usually bacteria.
