Q

Enzyme

A

Proteins that speed up chemical reactions.
Without them reactions would be too slow to maintain life.

Q

Denatures

A

Changes shape

17
Q

Carbohydrates

A

Broken down into glucose

18
Q

Proteins

A

Broken down into amino acid

19
Q

Lipids

A

Broken down into fatty acids and glcerol

20
Q

Why do foods need to be broken down?

A

So the smaller/ simpler substances can be absorbed by the small intestines into the blood stream.

21
Q

Negative Feedback

A

When a change occurs in a cycle and something is added into it to make it return back to its original state

22
Q

Positive Feedback

A

When a change occurs in a cycle and something is added into it increasing the effects/changes.
Does not return to original state

23
Q

What are the main organs of the Excretory system?

A

Kidney, Ureter, Bladder and Urethra

24
Q

CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM-

A
  • Made up of the brain and the spinal chord
  • recieves and processes the infomation from all over the body and then send out messages one how to respond.
25
PERIPHERAL NERVOUS SYSTEM-
- Made up of all the nerves in the body - Carries messages to and from other parts of the body to CNS
26
Neurons
Specialised cells that transmit electrical messages from one prat of your body to another at very high speeds
27
Nerve impulses
The electrical messages/signals. Only travels in one direction (you could say it's fav band is one direction)
28
Cell body
Contains the nucleus, control center of the cell
29
Dendrites
branch out from cell body and receive messages from other nerve cells
30
Axon
a long thin thread that sends nerve impulses/signals away from cell body
31
Axon terminal
Pass the signals to the next neuron
32
Neurotransmitter
The chemical released into the space between the neurons. Carries the message from the axon of one neuron to the dendrite of another neuron.
33
Synapse
The space between the neurons
34
Myelin Sheath
A white fatty insulating layer that insulates the neurons from eachother and increases the speed of the nerve impulse.
35
3 types of neurons
Sensory, Inter, Motor/effector
36
Sensory Neuron
Sends signals from the peripheral nervous system to the central nervous system
37
Inter Neurons
Sends signals between the motor and sensory neurons
38
Motor Neurons
Sends signals from the CNS to the muscles to cause action
39
