What are biomes?
Whilst the world can be divided into continents it can also be divided into Biones
They are - Large global ecosystems with distinct climate and vegetation
They cover a large area even spanning countries
Name the main 10 biomes?

Rainforest - tropical Desert Savannah grassland Temperate grassland- area between the tropics and the poles - very harsh Deciduous forest - trees which lose leaves in winter Coniferous forest Polar desert Mountains Mediterranean
Describe the climate vegetation and Animals of the desert?
Less than 10 inches rain
Joshua tree retains water
Camels, pupfish rattlesnake gecko
Do the same for Tundra
15-25cm rain per year Can get to - 30 degrees Most plants can’t survive; some small plants Polar bears ox rabbits fox and wolves Covers north of Russia
Same for Savannah
20-50 inches of rain
Many grasses; trees and occasional shrubs
Elephants giraffes lions zebras wilderbeast
E.g Africa
Rainforest; generally describe
Climate is hot humid and rainy
Vegetation is dense with trees shrubs grasses
Animals include birds snakes insects monkeys apes
What is the Tundra area?
A vast treeless plain in the arctic regions where the subsoil is permanently frozen - also in north of Russia
What are the main characteristics of the polar zone?
A zone which is too harsh to support vegetation
What is the location of the main biomes?
Africa - hot desert and savannah and tropical rainforest
Asia ( India) - tropical rainforest and sanavvah and mountains
Russia - tundra and coniferous rainforest and temperate grassland
Middle East - hot desert
