PNS

Somatic nervous system
Consists of sensory and motor neurone to carry sensory and motor information to and from the CNS. It enables reflex actions.
Under conscious control.
Controls skeletal muscles and movement.
Carries commands from the motor cortex.
Autonomic nervous system
Unconscious/involuntary. Divided into the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous system.
Controls smooth muscles and glands.
Purely motor.
Controls internal organs.
Control centres are in the brain stem.
Sympathetic nervous system
Prepares us for fight or flight
Parasympathetic nervous system
Provides us with rest and digest function
