- altered synthesis and release of NE, serotonin, and dopamine
- Mediates intracellular responses to neurotransmitters
- shown to facilitate regeneration of damaged optic nerves
- can increase total gray matter in regions known to atrophy in Bipolar disorder

- tremors

- renal toxicity
