block I - surface marking & spotting Flashcards
(12 cards)
median nerve in forearm spotting
shows when you list superficialis digitorum
surface marking of axillary artery
- Abduct the arm to 90°
- Mark the midpoint of clavicle
Mark the pulsation point in the upper 1/3rd of the arm, midway between anterior and posterior axillary folds (kinda like where coracobrachialis is)
Join both points with a broad line
surface marking of brachial artery
- Put a point on the pulsation of the lower part of the axillary artery (so start from like coracobrachialis origin part)
- Mark a point at the level of neck of radius (cubital fossa region) in the midline of the limb
Join these points
surface marking of axillary vein
draw like axillary artery but medially
surface marking of basilic vein
- Put a point on the inner side of the arm half-way b/w the axilla & the medial epicondyle
- Mark a point on the anterior surface of the forearm below the elbow towards the medial side
Join the above 2 points by a line
surface marking of cephalic vein
- Put a point in the deltopectoral groove below the coracoid process
- Mark a point in front of the elbow in the groove b/w brachioradialis & biceps
Join these points by a line which first ascends up and then arches towards the first point
veins go opposite way from arteries
surface marking of median nerve in arm
- Draw the brachial artery
The nerve is marked lateral to the artery in the upper half & medial to it in the lower half, crossing the front of the vessel in the middle
this one is in a sort of S shape
surface marking of radial nerve in arm
- Mark start of brachial artery (where axillary artery ends)
- Join the insertion of the deltoid (midway point on posterior of arm) - this is the middle point I guess
- Put a mark at the level of lateral epicondyle 1cm lateral to the tendon of biceps
Join these points by a line crossing the elevation produced by long & lateral heads of triceps
it goes also in a curve starting from coracobrachilais type region to lateral epicondyle
surface marking of ulnar nerve
- Mark midpoint of brachial artery by feeling its pulsations
- Put a mark on the ulnar nerve on the back of the medial epicondyle by rolling it
Draw a line following the medial side of the brachial artery halfway down its course
The line should then diverge to join the point on the back of medial epicondyle
surface marking of radial artery
- mark point medial to biceps tendon at level of neck of radius
- mark pulsation in anatomical snuffbox
Joint these points formed a curved line
surface marking of ulnar artery
- point opposite to the neck of radius
- mark point at lateral edge of pisiform
mark these points - starts at elbow and then goes down into hand type
ulnar artery lies lateral to the ulnar nerve
surface marking of median nerve in forearm
- point at level of neck of radius but in the middle (like below cubital fossa)
- point at wrist medial to flexor carpi radialis tendon
join points - goes straight down forearm
