Blood Flashcards
(11 cards)
Isoantibodies
ab produced by different
individual of the same species
Complete antibodies
agglutinate appropriate RBC directly (IgM)
Incomplete antibodies
cannot agglutinate erythrocytes directly,
despite being attached to the surface
Naturally occurring in nature
Antibodies that are presented in the
body without any previous exposure to foreign red cells
(exposure to bacteria, food, dust and others environmental
substances)
Immune antibodies
ab which are made only as a result of
exposure to foreign red cells (e.g. During transfusion or
pregnancy
Which blood group blood system can cause: haemolytic transfusion reaction (HTR) as well as haemolytic disease of the newborn (HDN)
ABO and Rh
Blood group system that rarely cause HTR but not HDN.
Lutheran and Lewis
Rh disease is rare today, because
mothers who are Rh negative
receive intramuscular injections
with a drug called
Rhogam
The direct Coombs test is used in the diagnosis of following conditions:
Hemolytic disease of the new-born
- Autoimmune and drug induced haemolytic anaemias
- Transfusion reaction
The indirect Coombs test is used for:
detection of incomplete antibodies
- Phenotyping (detection of Kidd, Duffy …)
- Cross-matching
Which parameter is higher in women than men ?
gamma-globulins
