What is the name for red blood cells?

Erythrocytes

4

What is the most common blood cell?

Erythrocytes

5

What is the structure of an erythrocyte?

Contains haemoglobin
Flexible
Bi-concave shape
No nucleus

6

Why do erythrocyte have no nucleus?

To allow for more haemoglobin- absorb more oxygen

7

What colour is plamsa liquid component?

Pale yellow

8

What percentage is plans air the body's total blood volume?

55%
95% water 5% dissooved molecules

9

How is blood plasma prepared?

1. Blood spun in centrifuge with anticoagulant
2. Blood cells fall to bottom
3. Plamsa on top drawn off

10

What is the role of leukocytes?

Immune system
Protect the body against infection and disease.

11

Where are Leukocytes and Erythrocytes made?

Bone marrow

12

A high level of leukocytes indicates what?

Indicated disease/illness

13

What percentage of blood are leukocytes?

1%

14

What are Thrombocytes?

Platelets

15

What is the role of thrombocytes?

Help with blood clotting

16

What is a thrombocyte made from?

Fragments of cytoplasm with no nucleus. Derived from cells in the none marrow.

17

Where are thrombocytes found?

Only in animals
