Blood flow-Topic 1 Flashcards
(5 cards)
Why do large organism need transport systems
To transport cells with food, oxygen and other materials and removing waste from cells
What does the blood flow transport
oxygen from the lungs to every cell in the body
carbon dioxide from cells in body back to lungs
waste (urea) from liver to kidney
digested food, eg glucose, amino acids from small intestine to every cell in body
heat from liver and muscles to every cell in body
hormones to communicate between cells in the body
What is double circulation
This is when
- blood enters the heart and is DEOXYGENATED
- blood is then pumped to the lungs to get oxygen
- blood is now OXYGENATED and travels back to the heart
- the blood is pumped around to every cell gets its oxygen and so it can carry out the process (respiration)
The blood flowing through the right side of the heart and the lungs is called
pulmonary circulation
the blood flowing through the left side of the heat and the rest of the body is called
systematic circulation
