blood pressure Flashcards
(7 cards)
cardiac output
amount of blood pumped out by each side of the heart (acc each ventricle) in 1min
calc cardiac output
HR( bpm beats per min) X stroke volume (ml/beats)= ml/min
calc blood pressure
systolic pa (mmHg)/ diastolic pa (mmHg)
peripheral resistance
amount of friction blood encounters as it flows through blood vessels
- increase=vasoconstriction
- decreace=vasodilation
systemic vascular resistance
- monitors + controls BP=baroreceptors
- stretch sensitive receptors
- located on aortic arch + carotid sinus
the baroreceptor reflex 1
-homeostatic system for bp
receptor: baroreceptor (carotid sius)
afferent pathway: cranial nerve 9 (glossopharyngeal)
integrating centre: cardiovascular centres in the medulla)
efferent pathway: cranial nerve 10 (vagus)
effector organ: heart and systemic arterioles= vasodilation or vasoconstriction
baroreceptor reflex 2
receptor= baroreceptors (aortic arch)
afferent pathway= cranial nerve 10 (vagus)
integrating centre= cardiovascular centres in medulla
efferent pathway: sympathetic fibers= adrenal medulla release of epinephrine/ norepinephrine
effector organ: heart and systemic arterioles/ vasoconstriction/ vasodilation
