Explain blood circulation

A

The blood leaves the heart under high pressure in arteries.
This splits into thousands of capillaries.
Under low pressure it goes back to the heart through the veins.

A

Heart contracts creating high blood pressure = systolic pressure
Heart relaxes creating low blood pressure = diastolic pressure

A

Poor circulation - tissues don’t get the food and oxygen , leading to feeling Dizzy & Fainting

How does smoking affect blood pressure?

A

Carbon monoxide mixes with haemoglobin in red blood cells so they can carry less oxygen. This means the heart beats faster = high blood pressure

Nicotine increases the heart rate = higher blood pressure too
