13
Q

What is PRBC?

A

made from whole blood (removing most of plasma)
one PRBC unit (300ml) will raise hct by 3%, hgb by 1g/dl

large volume hemorrhaging, autologous donations for elective surgery

18
Q

SE of whole blood

A

hemolytic transfusion reactions, febrile non-hemolytic reactions, allergic reactions, septic reactions, circulatory overload

19
Q

What are platelets?

A

derived from whole blood, stored at room temperature (CANNOT be frozen)

20
Q

What are platelets indicated for?

A

platelet count <50,000 and bleeding
prior to surgical procedure

21
Q

SE of platelets

A

hemolytic transfusion reactions, febrile non-hemolytic reactions, allergic reactions, septic reactions, circulatory overload

22
Q

fluid of choice if 20% or less blood loss

23
Q

fluid of choice if 20-50% blood loss

A

nonprotein colloids (dextran)

24
Q

fluid of choice if 50% slow or 20% rapid blood loss

A

whole blood, PRBCs, and/or PPF and FFP

25
fluid of choice if 80% or more blood loss
for every 5 units of blood, give 1-2 units FFP and 1-2 units of platelets
