bodies vessels Flashcards
(38 cards)
what is the common circulatory route?
heart, arteries, arterioles, capillaries, venules, veins, heart
what is a portal system?
its when the blood flows through 2 consecutive capillary networksbefore returning to yhe heart.
where does the Brachiocephalic trunk supply?
it branches into the the right subclavian which supplies the right upper limb and the right common carotid artery which supplies the right side of the head and neck.
where does the common carotid artery supply?
the left side of the head and neck
where does the left subclavian artery supply?
the left upper limb
what arteries supply blood to the upper arm?
starts at the subclavian artery, as it continues to it changes to the axillary artery, then to the brachial artery at the elbow and then it branches to the profundal brachii artery.
what arteries supply the lower part of the arm?
the Brachial artery branches into the radial artery and the ulnar artery. then to the deep and superficial palmar arteries in the palm and to the digital arteries in the fingers.
what’s the common interosseous artery?
arises below the tuberosity of the radius from the ulnar artery
what are the superficial veins in the upper limb?
the cephalic vein which supplies the lateral side of the arm.
the basilic vein which supplies the medial side.
how do the 2 veins communicate?
the cephalic and basilic vein communicate via the median cubital vein at the elbow.
where do the 2 veins empty?
the cephalic and basilic veins both empty into the axillary veins within the armpit.
what are the upper limbs deep veins?
they’re lots of small accompanying veins that run next the arteries.
radial and ulnar veins, brachial veins(deep), axillary vein and then to subclavian vein.
what artery supply the head and neck?
the right and left common carotid artery either side of the neck. it branches into the internal and external carotid.
what does the external carotid supply?
supplies neck, face, scalp. it branches into the facial a. posterior occipital a. maxillary a. and the superficial temporal a.
what does the internal carotid supply?
supplies the brain and it doesn’t branch.
what other artery supplies the brain
the basilar artery which is formed by the union of vertebral and subclavian arteries
what is the external jugular vein?
the external jugular vein contains the blood that drains from the face and the scalp. it then empties to the subclavian vein
what is the internal jugular vein?
it contains the blood that’s drained from the brain.
what’s the brachiocephalic vein?
its the joining of the internal jugular vein & subclavian vein. on both the right and the left side
what’s the thoracic aorta
its the continuation of arch of aorta
what does the thoracic aorta branch into?
oesophagus pericardium bronchi thoracic wall diaphragm
what veins supply the thorax?
the right and left brachiocephalic veins which join at the superior vena cava which returns the blood to he right side of the heart.
what supplies the gut and its associated organ?
the 3 anterior branches supply them
what supplies the foregut?
the coeliac trunk/axis supplies the foregut which includes the stomach liver gallbladder pancreas and spleen
