body fluids and circulation Flashcards
(22 cards)
list proteins in plasma
albumin, globulin, fibrinogens
role of fibrinogen?
CLOTTING/COAGULATION OF BLOOD
Globulin
defense mechanisms of the body
albumins
help in osmotic balance
what is serum
plasma without clotting factors
HOW MANY ERYTHROCYTES IN HEALTHY ADULT MAN
5-5.5 million of RBCs per mm3 of blooc
HOW MUCH HAEMOGLOBIN PER 100 ML OF BLOOD
12-16 GMS
HOW MUCH WBCS PER MMCUBE OF BLOOD
6000-8000 mm3
2 categories of wbc’s
granulocytes and agranulocytes
what do granulocytes comprise of
granulocytes- neutro-, eosino-, baso-phils
agranulocytes- lymmphocytes and monocytes
which is the most and least among wbc’s
neutrophils (60-65%) and basophils least (.5-1)
purpose of all the wbc’s
- neutrophils and monocytes are phagocytic-destroy foreign organisms
- Basophils-secrete histamine, serotonin, heparin, etc. and involved in inflammatory reactions
- Eosinophils-resist infections and are associated with allergic reactions
- T and B lymphocytes- responsible for immune responses for the body
how many times can SA node generate action potential
70-75 times per min
how many cardiac cycles performed in a min
72
duration of a cardiac cycle
0.8 seconds
stroke volume
volume of blood pumped by each ventricle during one cardiac cycle=70 mL
cardiac output
- defined as the volume of blood pumped out by each ventricle in 1 min - heart rate x stroke volume=5040 mL = avging 5 L.
what is an ecg?
graphical representation of the electrical activity of the heart during a cardiac cycle
role of sympathetic nerves in cardiac function
- increase heart rate
- increase strenght of ventricular systole
- increase cardiac output
- increase generation of action potential
role of parasympathetic neural signals in cardiac function
- decrease heart rate
- decrease ventricular contraction
- decrease cardiac output
- decrease speed of conduction of action potential
which other hormones increase cardiac output?
adrenaline and noradrenaline
disorders
- Hypertension(high BP)-bp is 140/90 or higher; affect heart and kidneys, cause heart diseases
- CAD/astherosclerosis- deposits of fat, calcium, cholesterol, and fibrous tissues; making lumen of coronary arteries narrower
- Angina pectoris-acute chest pain when no enough blood reaching heart; more common among middle aged and elderly.
- Heart failure-when heart not pumping enough blood to meet body needs. aka congestive heart failure as congestion of lugns is major symptoom
- cardiac arrest-heart stops beating
- heart attack-heart muscle damaged due to insufficient blood supply
