Gastroplasty versus Gastric Bypass
- Gastroplasty - staples or bands used to make a “2nd stomach”
- Gastric Bypass - food skips stomach, goes directly into SB
3 types of eating disorders
- anorexia
- bulimia
- binge-eating
4 Accommodations for underweight patients
- use extremity pads
- decrease dose
- tighter collimation
- assist in movement
3 Accommodations for overweight patients
- know weight limits of equipment (including portable IR; too much weight can cause “fencing” artifact)
- center of patient mass at center of table
- fetch wheelchairs that fit the size of patient
Order of operations for Post-Op Gastroplasty UGI
- use water soluble oral contrast, such as gastrographen (check for perforation)
- then barium, but not as much as normal UGI
- remove footboard on table (much lower weight limit)
- adjust technical factors
