What does “POSTERIOR” mean?
Posterior is in the back of, behind, or on the rear side of your body
What does “SUPERIOR” mean?
Superior means above, or higher than another structure
What does “INFERIOR” mean?
Inferior means the bottom part of your body or below a structure.
What does “LATERAL” mean?
Lateral means to the outside, on, or to the side. Usually farther from the median or midsaggital plane.
What does “MEDIAL” mean?
Medial means to the middle or center, nearest to the median
What does “MEDIAN” mean?
Median means relating to or located in, or extended toward the middle.
What does “CAUDAL” mean?
Caudal means below, in relation to another structure, inferior
What does “CEPHALIC” mean?
Cephalic is above above in relation to another structure, higher, superior
What does “CONTRALATERAL” mean?
Contralateral means pertaining or relating to the opposite side
What does “DEEP” mean?
Deep is beneath or below the surface, used to describe location of muscle or tissues.
What does “DEXTER” mean?
Dexter means relating to or situated on the right side of something, or on the right.
What does “SINISTER” mean?
Sinister means relating to or situated to the left or the left side of something.
What does “DISTAL” mean?
Distal means that it’s situated away from the center or point of origin
What does “DORSAL” mean?
Dorsal means relating to the back, or being located near, on, or towards the back. Posterior part or upper surface, also relating to the top of the foot.
What does “IPSILATERAL” mean?
Ipsilateral means on the same side
What does “PRONE” mean?
Prone means face downward position of the body, lying on the stomach
What does “SUPINE” mean?
Supine means facing upward position of the body, lying on the back
What does “PROXIMAL” mean?
Proximal means nearest the trunk or point of origin
What does “RADIAL” mean?
Radial means relating to the lateral side of the forearm or hand.
What does “SUPERFICIAL” mean?
Superficial means near the surface.
What does “ANTERIOR” mean?
Anterior is the front part of your body, the front area.
