Boiler Start Up Flashcards
(52 cards)
Steam trap - only opens to let water through not Steam .
So when u open a bypass around the Steam trap u are keeping a flow and not causing a dead head.
Start up
When u av ur drainage on in the turbine hall , only 2 valves around Steam traps
1st by drain from before MIV
2nd up by condensate tank from drain before big ships wheel for the bypass.
Turbine on barring
Temp less than 100c no Steam around bypass no boilers on,
Cooling water pump on, been put on barring with lube oil on , can leave on , no damage to be done.
Drainage on also .
48hrs on barring if sending Steam around bypass
Blanking plate should b fitted then or boilers off
Both drains out on turbine hall , close when open bypass
Don’t forget to open blue ships wheel bypass valve
Wondered y they couldn’t close the roof vent
Pressure alarm at the exhaust , had to be frigged again coz it’s not working still
Start up
Test run whole fly ash an residue system every 2 hrs
Test run - dampers / grate / feeders / siftings
Leave in just before opening dampers we
Dischargers
Leave out till waste coming off grate
Try an do something with boiler screws, open double flap ,leave off regular checks .
Magbelt out
Emergency stop just above on top side
Southern lining
Cool down curve 50 - 80 degrees
Then 100 when they were happy with enough soak
Don’t forget switches underneath grizzlies
Castle key problems for belt start
And limits on doors at top of dischargers / grizzlies
Final eco
When venting some off to lower temp maybe , must open vent on final eco at top but also the 2 drains further down few floors by ton dish
With turbine start , don’t forget to do the first 2 starts , then wait look for green lights to change , then ( possibly manual forward ok ) then do the last 2 admissions starts at bottom of the 4 , MIV open an start .
If forward is not highlighted just carry on as it’s possibly already in forward mode
Safety valves
Vac cond 0.5 bar X 2
DA vap cond. 17 bar
Reheater. 5. Bar
DA. 6 bar
Feed pump. 7. Bar
Stack 90 m
Def com alarms loads
Upto 36MW an rising , open bypass if possible or vents if not .
HP set point jumped to 58.3 Barbara
HP pressure setpoint 57 bar
When jumps to 58.3 , main bypass setpoint will be higher e g 59 .2 so might not close untill u put setpoint to 57
HP control loop centre kW was in manual an dump tube pressure forced 100%
Put back in auto was ok
Rotation fault
Try an put in local an start , will sometimes run ok in local
Crane ropes _ 6 broken cores max for rope change .
4 to 6 hrs rope change , synch hard bit to know correct area
Bunker cannon _ monitor s
If isolated after going off
Won’t have the use of the fire hoses either.
Head pressure
Works out around 1 bar per 10 metres of head pressure
Bag cell inst air feeding tanks dropped untill interlocked out
Low 2.5 Low Low 2
Isolate each one _ big yellow handle inlet valve
Air pressure comes back up when isolate the faulty cell
Felt each one ,at the bottom could feel a different more volatile air flow
Diaphragm faulty - changed later
Didn’t isolate cell - was stable - av to open valve an close to test coz need ID off to man declog
Just drop load
Turbine
Not starting
Underneath speed controller bottom left corner
Auto start on
Even if it looks normal click on it set set ok
Function group turbine start
> 90 % for 90 Min
12bar or ESV opened > 20 mins
To start
Environmental permit
Number
EPR/LP3030XA
B
R1 close both valves let pressure drop must av 4 bar diff to get authorisation as low in the 3 bar area should b ok.
Must then open bypass only to get auth
Then open R1 on Siemens straight away before pressure climbs to much closing the 4 bar gap.
Pre- coat 470 KG an hr for 2 hrs
Siftings 372 bypass idle time
Was missing on 1 line I found out an reported an got it corrected

Combustion interlocks turns off
> 89.4 T/hr
1000 C
Under 3% O2
Demin tank pumps trip at 1 metre
Trip at 5.4 bar low pressure
FW pumps trip - 1200 mm
FW motor winding temps < 140C
FW motor bearing temps < 120C
FW pumps vibration < 11.9 mm/s
FW pump low pressure 50 bar joint 70 bar
Diff pressure 150 mbar
Fire pump
Manual start of diesel pump stays on ,on its own.
Yellow drop test button, drops water out an pressure so electric fire pump starts also.
Electric fire pump cut in pressure 9.2 bar
Diesel pump cut in - 8.5 bar
Coolers on ACC units for elec rooms etc
To keep rooms at a particular temp they reverse inlet out let to remove hot air or put cold in.
Will have condensation leak from units where it pulls cooler air out sometimes
Fire call point
BLK key up pull down
Then press to activate
Push back up after
Control rooms resets last
Tube leak ,
Drum reg few %
Make everything safe open doors etc
Dig out shoot low as possible first for dampers then to save time putting mounds onto grate which it still will be.
Try to find leak when still has pressure in drum
Phil E said stop putting water in drum wasting it,
First pass was cool enough.,
Must always get waste on and off grate ,it’s the only way, digging down as far as possible is everything
Had doors open for visual an to aid cooling
Push waste off feed table early with metal sifting rod so it goes on grate.
They didn’t have vent open but pressure still drops nicely but Plato’s out under 5 bar so then had to open vent to remove last pressure
Waste in chute will always catch fire eventually
After time with high enough temp it will just catch fire
Kept a drum level when we started putting water in
-333 seems to hold there for sum reason
Start up was steady once when we had Eco Vent open for ages.
Don’t doubt urself when doing vents an drains
All drains including vapo SH section except demin fill.
There is one vapo drain on firing floor manifold that stays closed.
Vents all except feedwater and final eco no need to touch that section when demin fill complete.
When av tube leak economiser is probable low so av to fill through demin .
Maintenance mode
Flow must b under 5 t
Flickers in an out being able to have it.
MOC signed by Beaumont to b able to take the temp robes out so they read ambient 27C ish so you can then start ID fan.
130 approx mayb
Opened vent to 100% thought flow would fly up but it never, kept it under 5 t when to zero.
Could push on then stop let run down a bit then push again etc etc
To empty chute after tube leak.
Maintenance mode let’s u use feeders an grate
Water normally piles into dischargers so can turn off water. Check siftings an all screws etc.
Boiler fill . Don’t forget when u av a tube leak it drains the eco
Even though the drum may av level the Eco will av lost a lot of water
So don’t fill with feed range bypass
Use demin fill as normal an fill up both water walls and eco as normal
Always open Eco vent to see if that side an system is full ?
Takes ages to fill as we know
Used the feedrange bypass when eco was low an somehow the cond tank was filling when the DA was emptying
The feedpump also was going in high diff alarm
Didn’t see no level move in drum or temp rise of water to drum.
Turbine - check conditions
Cond on
Cooling water on
Green function group man - rev starts pre heat
Light blue then green light starts pre heat 10 secs
Then warm leg through
Open first bypass
Then MIV
Next bypass slowly
Then manual
Then Electric Miv - close manual bypass
Close small bypasses
Turbine
Once cond on
Cooling water on
Manual forward
Starts preheat
Once that happens don’t after press cond an cool water again
Break vacuum - towards 40 bar break vac
Close steam open hogger air
Gland steam comes off around 0.2
Vac around 0.3 to send around bypass
Hogger in , settle , ejector in .
If vac slows , 0.75
Take hogger out then vac raised up
