Q

Steam trap - only opens to let water through not Steam .

So when u open a bypass around the Steam trap u are keeping a flow and not causing a dead head.

A

Start up

When u av ur drainage on in the turbine hall , only 2 valves around Steam traps

1st by drain from before MIV
2nd up by condensate tank from drain before big ships wheel for the bypass.

Coolers on ACC units for elec rooms etc

To keep rooms at a particular temp they reverse inlet out let to remove hot air or put cold in.

Will have condensation leak from units where it pulls cooler air out sometimes

Q

Tube leak ,

Drum reg few %

Make everything safe open doors etc

Dig out shoot low as possible first for dampers then to save time putting mounds onto grate which it still will be.

Try to find leak when still has pressure in drum

A

Phil E said stop putting water in drum wasting it,
First pass was cool enough.,

Must always get waste on and off grate ,it’s the only way, digging down as far as possible is everything

Had doors open for visual an to aid cooling
Push waste off feed table early with metal sifting rod so it goes on grate.
They didn’t have vent open but pressure still drops nicely but Plato’s out under 5 bar so then had to open vent to remove last pressure

Q

Waste in chute will always catch fire eventually

After time with high enough temp it will just catch fire

Kept a drum level when we started putting water in

-333 seems to hold there for sum reason

Start up was steady once when we had Eco Vent open for ages.

A

Don’t doubt urself when doing vents an drains

All drains including vapo SH section except demin fill.
There is one vapo drain on firing floor manifold that stays closed.
Vents all except feedwater and final eco no need to touch that section when demin fill complete.
When av tube leak economiser is probable low so av to fill through demin .

Q

Maintenance mode

Flow must b under 5 t
Flickers in an out being able to have it.

MOC signed by Beaumont to b able to take the temp robes out so they read ambient 27C ish so you can then start ID fan.
130 approx mayb
Opened vent to 100% thought flow would fly up but it never, kept it under 5 t when to zero.

A

Could push on then stop let run down a bit then push again etc etc

To empty chute after tube leak.

Maintenance mode let’s u use feeders an grate

Water normally piles into dischargers so can turn off water. Check siftings an all screws etc.

22
Q

Boiler fill . Don’t forget when u av a tube leak it drains the eco

Even though the drum may av level the Eco will av lost a lot of water

So don’t fill with feed range bypass
Use demin fill as normal an fill up both water walls and eco as normal

Always open Eco vent to see if that side an system is full ?

A

Takes ages to fill as we know

Used the feedrange bypass when eco was low an somehow the cond tank was filling when the DA was emptying

The feedpump also was going in high diff alarm

Didn’t see no level move in drum or temp rise of water to drum.

23
Q

Turbine - check conditions
Cond on
Cooling water on
Green function group man - rev starts pre heat

Light blue then green light starts pre heat 10 secs

A

Then warm leg through
Open first bypass
Then MIV
Next bypass slowly
Then manual
Then Electric Miv - close manual bypass
Close small bypasses

24
Q

Turbine

Once cond on
Cooling water on
Manual forward
Starts preheat

Once that happens don’t after press cond an cool water again

A

Break vacuum - towards 40 bar break vac
Close steam open hogger air
Gland steam comes off around 0.2

Vac around 0.3 to send around bypass

Hogger in , settle , ejector in .
If vac slows , 0.75
Take hogger out then vac raised up

25
Broke vacuum then took gland steam off Then stopped turning gear briefly Was going to hand bar 180 Deg 5 mins Always b careful of pulling steam in back end through turbine, Make sure blue ships wheel is closed.
Watch turning gear pump turns off if stopped. When function group lighting bolt was red , used to take lots of times to start
26
Bypass around turbine Never open Must always b shut if no gland steam on an turning gear off
When preheating hp steam leg Open small valve bypasses so slightly first before any other Auto bypass last but 1 Then auto Miv last
27
Gland steam Under 40 bar must b off Closed both manual feed valves as not on procedure Then closed man desup back nearest turbine And control valve isolation up on platform
Can click on gland steam stop to see if conditions are ready Will show u red lines if not ready When drops below - 20 red turns green and u can stop gland steam at -19
28
Brought boiler off for eco tube leak Kept ID fan on coz of smoke in chute Stopped other fans Keep drum level if pos to keep ID fan in otherwise u will need MOC for steam temp of 150C Used desups to get that temp to drop then
Break vacuum in time for gland steam to b off when under 40 bar Tried at around 43 but was 38bar when gland steam came off so would try at 45 next time. All fine to take off as long as on turning gear Can close MIV 1 hr turbine off Then close bypass Then turbine main bypass , hp header an both boiler stops Keep desups available if u may need to drop steam temp to 150 for moc frig for I'd fan an low level bypass
29
Opened MP header drainage 2 valve bypasses around traps Corner before Miv always stays open to steam trap which we open bypass to for drainage
Other bypass we open around steam trap for turbine bypass by condensate tank Opened bypass around steam trap last time at turbine back end also? Did av a lot of water hammer when put hogger in Might always happen ? Try no bypass around trap by turbine exhaust next time maybe?
30
Leave drainage on until open turbine bypass Close mp header drainage early when have steam. Couple of bar. -0.3 TO OPEN TURBINE BYPASS
Gland steam - in book says open both desup isolation valves Don't forget bypass around steam trap Isolation valve before control valve open 2 isolation valves on Hp line corner Open all valves first then do start on Siemens Don't forget drainage on HP header if no boilers on , lower down drainage.
31
Steam leg turbine Drain behind gland steam valves should always b open If anything has a steam trap after it then it should b open.
Turbine rpm ramped with just both bypasses open around the valves not the big manual bypass just small ones Turbine start as been pressed all 4 in one go so turbine sucked the 17 bar down to 3 bar an ramped up to 1200 rpm approx
32
Turbine SP tracking alarm in yellow Below green released alarm Looks like above 35 approx MW then u can't adjust MW on active power
Looks like not increased since turbine increase SP tracking goes if u lower load on boilers first or through vents
33
Turbine Limit controllers Inlet steam pressure , was under 5mw Wouldn't rise up in live steam pressure Had to put in active power an put it to 5.5MW first
Turbine Had to open ESV manually to preheat turbine Then wait for temp to rise above 330 And waiting for ESV to b open more than 20 mins to let u start up
34
No vacuum After blackout vac decreases Below -0.3 no steam around bypass But they opened bypass more 0.35 safety 0.5 rupture disc
Demin pumps tripped on start up on 100% DA when up to 3.3 bar an rising Dropped back down when pumps turned back on
35
Turbine New upgrade Can't adjust in reactive power when on high load eg 36MW Still stuck in old mode so will only adjust in reactive power when down around 30MW expert and below.
H
36
D / flaps - both under screws 10 Then vapo 11 Next 12 , 13 ,14
H
37
If turbine Barring don't work, Breaker trip in cabinet by Oil cooler Hand barring handle trip sensor on cover
Hard to hand bar, stop steam going there , HP header or bypass , bypass was passing so letting steam go to the back glands , making it hard to hand bar.
38
CBiss Nitrogen purge zero backflush around 8 stby an 9 in morning duties If changing bottle won't read till next one
Jordan CBiss ginger beard Ok to lose readings when adjust at half hrs Freeze data until updated But didn't expect screw to increase
39
Back end temp 140 C to 150 C I/o fault Opened desup in man to 100% temp flew down Had bypass open in man to 10% Can open more then when temp low
Condensate tank to DA CV wouldn't open coz cond tank was low Had to open in manual to fill from condensate tank to DA
40
Condensate to DA valve Stay in auto -200 maybe
ACC forced +2 turbine an boilers trip Reduce fans put in normal will over cool
41
Turbine trip When close MIV - after draining leg below 12 bar When restart preheat , just cond on cool on Manual forward Preheat started
Then just open manual bypass when ready MIV open Then when pressure equalised MIV open / turbine Start speeding up Sync took 2 mins approx
42
Turbine Power factor should always be lagging Not leading Purity is 1
Temp took a while to raise in main leg Above 385 hp header Leg was just under 379 when turbine was at 4703 rpm
43
Blackout - Cooling water in most important MV - page then start blackout sequence Line 1 an line 2 Check all breakers have opened if not can initiate 415V blackout
Should get given feedpump then don't try to change it into manual an start it until sequence starts loop window sequence. Once given make sure feed regs r on 5 - 10% Then start pump
44
Blackout Phone western power Phone electrical eng for HVswitching
Look to see if diesel pumps r available or started Hydraulic pump Grate extraction fan Emergency I'd fan to bring line off
45
Turbine Must have 330c in leg before u can start speeding up after preheat MIV open Start speeding up
Turbine will trip if u synch when temp is not above 379
46
Demon make up water - colder weather will mean it doesn't make up as much . Bypass valve jumping to 25% When opening to send around, making vacuum dropby opening to much. Managed to quickly put it on 1 or 2% to slowly send it around
Drum level wouldn't drop from 195 Ended up opening vent wide 60% got flow then started dropping Vent to auto was bouncing around everywhere Might of been coz it was on safety not dcs drum level
47
Lime arch breaker Won't activate if too high arch breaking alarm is in, have to reset.
Does 4 complete cycles then has a timer count down 15 mins approx.
48
Bypass vacuum - valve closing
Acc was on in auto / SP -0.66 Cond pumps had just been turned off Vent was 12% Got to -30 bypass opened to 12% Normally double must b acc low sp. It then jumped to 23% secs later. Was ok tho then started cond pumps.
49
Didn't close header - keep low flow approx 740C 58 bar
De-sups stayed to low when fixed at 300 an lower, worked better then in auto. Also put sp to 380C another time opened desups up.
50
Restart of boiler - rain in eco temp valves in man 5 % eg
With both boilers on, an if DA drops eg -500 FW pump outlet pressure may drop an keep tripping pumps, throttle them in straight away.
51
Put desups to bed on start up on 1 line do it early ,won't make a difference. Get ready with opening cond tank fill when starting comd tank pumps
Then watch vent when doing bypass , try an get to 58.5 , watch drum level can jump up
52
Start up - burners always remember set point to change from 500 to 850
Always takes much longer in auto ,even nudging up more like 80c an hr not 120c
