1937
Japan invaded the rest of China
1938
Pro Japanese Korean soldiers were recruited to the growing Japanese army, fighting against the rebellion, Chinese communist in Manchuria, the Korean force and a reputation for brutality
1944
Japanese constricted Koreans into their armed forces. All Korean males were forced to join the imperial Japanese army as of the work in the military industrial sector from 1944, about 200,000 Korean males joined the Japanese army.
Describe Korea in the first half of the 20th century
They refused to treaty Japan to annex Korea, China was govern in Korea, Japan was stronger and threatened to invade Korea.
Why might Americans be concerned about Korea after World War II
They fought against them in the war, and they became weak and more easier to take over America
Second of September 1945, Korean War, post World War II
The Japanese surrendered to the USA, and World War II ended. The USA took over Japan and now controlled a lot of Asian territory. The USSR had joined the war against Japan and had troops from its red army in Manchuria and parts of northern Korea. The USSR was no match for the USA at this point as they didn’t have an atom bomb.

China was an important power in Asia, but was devastated by the eight years of war against Japan. China and the USSR was both dependent on US financial support as they had been alleys against the Japanese in World War II. France was also a power in the region and was trying to regain its controlled of indo China.

In World War II peace negotiations at Potsdam and Korean peninsula was taken from Japanese control and put into do zones of occupation. The divide was called the 30th parallel with the USSR zone in the north and the USA zone in the south. Similar decision was made in Germany after the war.

Why did the USA hate communism?
USA didn’t like communism countries because there were lots of anti-communist in USA. Also they had very different political beliefs so they both had different opinions.
US relations with China, and fear of communism
There was a lot of anti-communist feeling in the USA by the 1950s. This was partially because they had very different political beliefs but also because the USSR had taken over many Eastern European countries by 1949 and were becoming a rival superpower.
How would communism cause the Korean War?
Communism expanding, and the USA was worried, they spread to Malaysia, Indonesia, Burma and the Philippines, as well as North Korea. USA refused to recognise the new communist government of China. USA wanted freedom for people in China and other countries didn’t
The division of Korea
After Japan was defeated in World War II, the USA took over the southern half of Korea and the USSR took over the northern half the north had a communist leader called Kim sung he let the Democratic people Republic of Korea from September 1948, started using gorilla warfare against the south and cleaned that there were 200,000 communist supporters already living in the south

The role of foreign powers capitalist
Until 1949, the USA main concern in Asia was Japan. They will also focus more on the threat of the USSR in Europe than in Korea. Truman immediately sent warships and advises to South Korea. The Americans believe that North Korea was trying to unsettle Asia and this would spread to Europe.

Initially Joseph Stalin, the reluctant to help Kim sung as you didn’t want to upset the USA, but they changed after trying to became communist, stadium was upset because he had been forced to back down after he had attempted to blockade West Berlin, and make it communist. He saw Korea as opportunity to get his own back on the Americans, Stalin agreed to provide North Korea with 1600 pieces of artillery 178 military aircraft and 258T 34 tanks

In June 1950, the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, rapidly advanced into the south, helped by the equipment from the USSR and China captured the capital city Seoul and then push the southerners troops back as far as Pusan in the SE corner, Chinese troops had amassed in Manchuria ready for the move into Korea to support the communist. The UN forces were being assembled ready to start the fight back 29 states had agreed to provide military economic and medical aid.

September November 19 50 phase 2 of the Korean

The UN wanted to cut off communist supply lines which were passed through Seoul in September 1950 they were stormed ashore at lnchon. North Koreans were driven back beyond their original border of the 30th parallel and by the end of September MacArthur had retaken Seoul.
Phase 3 December 19 50 June 1951
MacArthur had underestimated the power of the Chinese late in October 1950 200,000 Chinese troops launched and attack. The soldiers were committed to communism and hated the Americans in January 1951. The UN forces were pushed out of Seoul and only after weeks of bitter fighting were they able to push the Chinese back to the 30th? Parallel .Truman and MacArthur fell out. MacArthur wanted to attack China with nuclear weapons and despite a warning from Truman and the UN that this might pull the USSR into war all the openly threaten China in March 1951
June 1951 phase 4 till July 1953
Please talk between northern south begin in June 1951 but made no progress because of a dispute over the exchange of the prisoners .1952 Truman was replaced by Eisenhower who wanted to end the war. Stalin died in March 1953 and was replaced by the less aggressive Malenkov. An armistice was finally signed in Panmunjon in July 1953.
How did the water affect Koreans?
Loss of family, poverty, destroying most of its industry, homelessness, loss of money, death, kids having no parents, no house, no money, no food, no water, maybe hurt, family member may have died
