Q

what does the term adaptive refer to in bowlbys monotropic theory

A

attachment increases chances of survival

infants have an innate dirve to survive

attachment behaviours have evolved through natural selection in infants and caregivers

Q

what does the term ‘critical period’ refer to in bowlbys monotropic theory

Q

what does the term ‘internal working model’ refer to in bowlby’s monotropic theory

A

the internal working model is a mental representation of their relationship with their PCG.

It serves as a blueprint for future relationships

Q

limitation of bowlbys monotropy theory

A

P:A weakness of Bowlby’s theory of monotropy is it is a socially sensitive idea.
E:major implications for the lifestyle choices that mothers make, this can include making them feel guilty for returning to work
E: could cause new mothers to be labelled as selfish for going back to work but also puts a lot of pressure on them as their child’s whole future is dependant on them.
L:Makes women less likely to want to have children as they may feel like they will have to give up all of their independence and even their career.

Q

strength of bowlby’s monotropic theory

A

P: Lorenz supports the idea that imprinting is innate
E: because the goslings imprinted on the first moving thing they saw - Lorenz- and followed him around.
E: this displays the innate drive to form an attachment occuring within the critical period
