Q

What is the difference between a performance mindset and a growth mindset, and how do they affect us?

A

People with a performance mindset believe that individuals are born with a fixed degree of intelligence, and intelligence determines success or failure.

People with a growth mindset believe they can always improve their intelligence. Success results from effort and persistence through continuous learning.

Studies show that people with a growth mindset perform better, stick with tasks or problems longer, and express more enjoyment while doing them. Not only that, but after delivering an incorrect answer, people with a growth mindset show greater brain activity than people with a performance mindset.

Q

Specialize Today, Seek Variety Tomorrow

A

So, it’s time to stop thinking of specialization and variety as mutually exclusive. Instead, maximize learning by using them together.

In the short term, specialization helps you stay focused, while multitasking overloads your working memory.

Over the long term, adding variety to learning keeps you engaged and gives you a more comprehensive foundation of information and ideas.
