20
Q

what is Trastuzumab

A

monoclonal antibody directed against the HER2/neu receptor

21
Q

Role of Trastuzumab

A

mainly in metastatic breast cancer although some patients with early disease are now also given trastuzumab.

22
Q

side effects of Trastuzumab

A

flu-like symptoms and diarrhoea are common

cardiotoxicity:
more common when ANTHRACYCLINES HAVE also been used
an echo is usually performed before starting treatment

23
Q

Selective oEstrogen Receptor Modulators (SERM) example and used when ?

A

Tamoxifen- used in the management of oestrogen receptor-positive breast cancer.

24
Q

Tamoxifen is a SERM which acts as an

A

oestrogen receptor antagonist and partial agonist

25
Q

Adverse effects of elective oEstrogen Receptor Modulators (SERM)

A

menstrual disturbance: vaginal bleeding,

amenorrhoea

hot flushes - 3% of patients stop taking tamoxifen due to climacteric side-effects
venous thromboembolism

endometrial cancer

26
Q

examples of aromatase inhibitors ?

A

Anastrozole and letrozole

27
Q

function of aromatase inhibitor ?

A

reduces peripheral oestrogen synthesis.

28
Q

aromatisation accounts for the majority of oestrogen production in ?

A

postmenopausal women and therefore anastrozole is used for ER +ve breast cancer in this group.

29
Q

side effects of aromatase inhibitor such as anastrozole and letrozole

A

osteoporosis
NICE recommends a DEXA scan when initiating a patient on aromatase inhibitors for breast cancer
hot flushes
arthralgia, myalgia
insomnia
