Brochopulmonary Anatomy Flashcards
(16 cards)
At what vertebral level is found the cricoid cartilage?
C6
[just superior to the cricoid are the vocal chords]
The brachiocephalic artery bifurcates into which two arteries? And at what vertebral level does this occur?
Subclavian and jugular.
It occurs at TI.
What are the three classifications of bronchi?
- R/L main bronchi
- Lobar bronchi (3 R, 2L)
- Segmental bronchi (~10 L/R)
Name the point of divergence of the main bronchi.
Carina.
Into which part of the lung is a foreign object most likely to fall?
Right Inferior local bronchus
At what vertebral level is the bifurcation of the trachea?
T4
Name and describe the 3 branches of the aortic arch.
Brachiocephalic (branches to right common carotid/subclavian)
Left common carotid
Left subclavicular
Locate the pulmonary ligament.
On the mediastinal surface of both lungs, inferior to the root, as far as the diaphragmatic surface caudally.
Of the pulmonary vein and artery which is the uppermost at the root of the lung?
On R/L the artery is uppermost.
Describe the position of the heart, aortic arch, and thoracic aorta in relation to the left lung.
On the mediastinal surface, a round hollow inferior and anterior to the root of the lung. Delineated posteriorly by the pulmonary ligament. The hollow is traversed by the oblique fissure.
From the heart the aortic arch loops superiorly around the root superior to the pulmonary artery then down posterior to the root where it travels parallel and lateral to the oesophagus.
Name all the lobes of all the lungs.
Right Sup Med Inf
Left Sup Inf
Name the 3 segments of the superior lobe of the right lung.
- Apical
- Posterior
- Anterior
Name the two segments of middle lobe of the right lung.
- Lateral
2. Medial
Name the five segments of the inferior lobe of the right lung.
- Superior
- Posterior basal
- Lateral basal
- Anterior basal
- Medial basal (visible mediastinally)
Name the 4/5 segments of the superior lobe of the left lung.
- /2. Apico/posterior (can be one or two segments)
- Anterior
- Superior lingular.
- Inferior lingular.
Name the 5 segments of the inferior lobe of the left lung.
- Superior
- Posterior basal
- Lateral basal
- Anterior basal
- Medial basal (absent in 70% pop.)
