Brodmann's Areas Flashcards
(22 cards)
What are Broddman’s areas 9, 10, & 11?
Prefrontal cortex
Controls executive function & intelligence
What is Broddman’s area 8?
conjugate eye movement
devoted to making sure your eyes are moving together
What is Broddman’s area 6?
Premotor cortex
refining gross body movement, moving hands, legs, standing on toes
What is Broddman’s area #4?
Primary motor cortex
Motor strip–controls motor function
damage to this may lead to paralysis/paresis
What is Broddman’s area 1,2,3?
post central gyrus
somatosensory cortex
receives sensory information from your body
What is Broddman’s area 39?
Angular Gyrus
cross modal association of the parietal, occipital, and temporal lobes
What is Broddman’s area 19?
Association area of the primary visual cortex
following movement
What is Broddman’s area 18?
Association area of the primary visual cortex
visual interpretation
What is Broddman’s area 17?
Primary visual cortex
receives visual input (upside down)
What is Broddman’s area 22?
Wernicke’s area
auditory cortex
comprehension of spoken language
What is Broddman’s area 41?
Primary auditory cortex
superior gyrus
What is Broddman’s area 42?
secondary auditory cortex
What is Broddman’s area 44?
Broca’s area
speech–motor cortex
What does the Sylvian fissure do?
separates the temporal lobe from the frontal lobe
What is the rombencephalon?
- lizard brain–the oldest brain.
- the hind brain or brainstem. this is the part of the brain that regulates our most basic functions: temperature, breathing, heart rate. also regulates alertness & reflexes
- not voluntary planning or executing, just movement
hindbrain=brainstem
what is the mesencephalon?
midbrain
it’s a massive collection of white matter pathways that carry information from the body to the forebrain/cerebrum
What is the prosencephalon?
the newest brain
the forebrain–cerebrum/cerebral cortex
this is the brain as we know it today.
the cerebral cortex is divided into two hemispheres & six lobes
What are the six lobes of the brain?
frontal lobe
parietal lobe
occipital lobe
temporal lobe
limbic lobe
insular lobe
What is the fissure of Rolando?
separates the frontal cortex from the parietal cortex
What is the longitudinal fissure?
separates left from right
What is the parieto-occipital sulcus?
separates the parietal and occipital cortex
what is the cingulate sulcus?
the cortex matter that wraps the limbic lobe
