Compares cop to a wild animal of power and strength.
Thick-fleshed, steak coloured
Imagery. Raw savage power of cop. Beefy and muscular
Hieroglyphics in his face
Compares his eyes to Egyptians stone drawings. Difficult to read. Hard to know what he’s thinking. Emotionless.
Thin tissue over violence
At any given moment violence could erupt. Even if everything looks normal.
He hoped it, he truly hoped it
Despite fearsome introduction we feel sympathetic for him. He knows everytime he leaves his home he may not return.
To whom “hiya honey is no cliche”
Raw power and brutality contrasts with loving side. He will never be tired of saying this. Forever great fuel for being home safe.
Should he plunge through into violence
Plunge has connotations of downward movement. Conflict can happen extremely quickly
Phoebes whamburger
Conflict can happen anywhere. Public locations not restricted to dark alleyways
Who would be him
Rhetorical question. Who would want a job like his that risks his life. We should not judge him so much as he may not make it home.
