Pre World War I, Clemente Santi’s grandson, enamored with his work, isolated sangiovese grosso, and made it a monovarietal wine. Ferruccio even changed his name to include his grandfather’s surname, Ferruccio Biondi Santi.

Some darker than normal wines had appeared, and it was discovered that some producers were blending in other grapes, which besides softening tannin and making wines darker, illegally stretched production of an expensive wine to make.

Well, there aren’t many bad ones. 2014 is the one to avoid, wet underripe year, 2011 was a bit better.

10, 15, 16 are all stunners
12, 13, 17, 18 all solid as well, especial 12

19 and 20 are expected to be excellent as well upon release.
