Aim of practical
To investigate in group favouritism by looking at ageism. To see if young people have different attitudes towards different age groups. To compare young people’s positive and negative attitudes to same age groups as themselves to old age group people
AO1 procedure of practical
- Opportunity sample of 20 p.pants age 16-19 from wbs school was obtained.
- A questionnare was made by 3 researchers and printed out to p.pants to complete
- All asked to complete a questionnaire with 10 questions, 5 questions each of positive and negative attitudes of young and old people with each of 4 closed and 1 open question with a 5 point likert scale.
- All 20 p.pants were debriefed fully after the questionnaire completed and provided a right a withdraw of their data.
AO1 Findings of practical
Mean attitudes to Young: 15.15
Mean attitudes to old: 12.11
SD of young : 1.69 old: 2.45
OV calculated using Wilcoxon : 14.5< CV 52 = shows sig difference
AO1 conclusion of practical
There is in-group favouritism of young People having more positive attitudes to young age group than to older age group. Indicating clear prejudice towards out group of older age group. Supports realistic conflict theory by Sherif.
