Burns CPG Flowchart And Care Objectives Flashcards
(6 cards)
When dealing with burns, What is paramount for paramedic safety?
Ensure safety and removal from burn mechanism, avoid chemical contamination.
What should be assessed in burn injuries?
Assess mechanism of burn and burn injury:
- Signs/symptoms of airway burns
- mechanism of injury
- severity of injury (%TBSA, estimated depth, other injuries, comorbidities)
What action should be taken for suspected airway burns?
Action for suspected airway burns: escalate care to MICA For patients at any GCS, consider ETT as per CPG A0302 Endotracheal Intubation
What action should be taken for partial or full thickness burns?
Patients with TBSA >15% Normal Saline - % TBSA x Pt wt (kg) = vol (mL) administered over 2 hours from time of the burn
What actions should be taken for all burns? (5)
- Rx pain as per CPG A0501 Pain Relief
- cool the burn
- warm the patient
- apply appropriate dressing
- Tx to an appropriate facility.
Care objectives: Burns
- To identify and manage potential airway burns as a priority
- To minimise the impact of injury by maintaining tissue and organ perfusion, minimising pain, appropriate burn wound cooling and minimising heat loss during transfer to hospital
