Productivity
Productivity is a measure of efficiency- the amount of output produced compared to the amount of inputs required in production
Business competitiveness
Refers the the ability of an organisation to sell products in the market
Facilities design and layout
Facilities design and layout involves planning the layout of a workplace to streamline the production process
Fixed position layout
Fixed position layout deal with large scale processes, such as the construction of bridges, ships, aircraft or buildings
Product layout
A product layout deals with the manufacturing of goods in mass volume using an assembly line
Process layout
A process layout deals with high varieties of products by grouping activities, equipment and machinery of a similar function together
Inputs
Inputs are the resources used in the process of production
Transformation/process
Transformation is the conversion of inputs into outputs
Outputs
Outputs refer to the end result of an organisations efforts- the service or product that I delivered to the consumer
Materials management
Materials management is the strategy that manages the use, storage and delivery of materials to ensure the right amount of inputs is available when required in the operations system
Production plan
A production plan is an outline of the activities undertaken to combine resources to create goods or services
Inventory control
Ensures the costs are minimised and that the operations system has access to the right amounts of inputs when required
Just in time
A materials management strategy that ensures that the exact amount of material inputs will arrive only as they are needed in the operations process
Quality management
The management of the production process that ensures the outputs produced are consistently reliable and durable
Quality control
Involves the use of inspections at various points in the production to check for problems and defects
