What are the features of serotonin syndrome?
Autonomic excitation (tremor, hyperthermia) Altered mental state Neuromuscular excitation (hyperreflexi, myoclonus, rigidity)
What syndrome is caused by B1 deficiency?
WERNICKE’S ENCEPHALOPATHY
What are the symptoms of Wernicke’s encephalopathy?
Ophthalmoplegia
Ataxia
Confusion
What can Wernicke’s encephalopathy lead to?
Korsakoff’s syndrome (confabulation)
What is the treatment for Wernicke’s encephalpathy?
Thiamine replacement (Pabrinex)
What are the symptomsof delirium?
- Fluctuating mental state
- Inattention
- Disorganised thinking
and/or - Altered level of consciousness
(1+2 either 3 or 4 or both)
When are triptans contraindicated?
IHD
Uncontrolled hypertension
Concurrent use of lithium, SSRI or ergot derivative drugs (such as cabergoline in PD)
