C2 Bonding, Structure And Porporties Of Matter Flashcards
(3 cards)
1
Q
What is an ionic compound?
A
A giant structure of ions, held together by strong electrostatic forces of attraction between oppositely charged ions. Forces act in all directions in the lattice.
2
Q
What are the 5 types of bonding diagrams?
Limitations of them all
A
3D-Doesn’t show the bonds
2D-doesn’t show which atom the electron belongs to
Ball and stick-Shows gaps which are not actually present, should be tightly packed
Space filling-Cannot see the bonds between atoms
Dot and cross-Doesn’t show shape of molecule
3
Q
What is the limiting reactant?
A
The reactant that is used up first in a reaction, leaving the other reactants unreacted
