Calculating values in circuits Flashcards
(13 cards)
Describe current (I) in series circuits
The SAME at all points in the circuit
Describe current (I) in parallel circuits
Current is additive
Why is current additive in parallel circuits?
Because each junction offers a different flow of electrons
Describe series circuits
- All components are connected end to end
- There are NO branching points
- Current flows in one path
Describe parallel circuits
- A circuit that contains at least one junction
- Current intensity is shared among the various resistors in the circuit
Describe Kirchhoff’s Law
The current that flows into a node (junction point) in a circuit is always equal to the current that flows out of the node
I in = I out
What is the formula for current in SERIES
It=I1=I2=….
What is formula for voltage in SERIES
Vt=V1+V2+….
- The sum of voltage drop across each resistor is equal to Vt
What is the formula for resistance in SERIES
Rt=R1+R2+….

What is the formula for current in PARALLEL
It=I1+I2+….
What is the formula for voltage in PARALLEL
Vt=V1=V2=….
What is the formula for resistance in PARALLEL
1/Rt=1/R1+1/R2+…
the more resistors added, the lower the Rt
