Q

How is calorimetry measured?

A

The change in temperature of the calorimeter is converted into the amount of heat energy produced by the reaction. You need to know the heat capacity of the surroundings, masses of the system and surroundings, changes in temperature

Q

What to do (to find enthalpy of combustion/neutralization)

A
  1. Check for sig fig
  2. Check units
  3. Calculate q using q=mcdeltaT where m = mass of things being warmed up
  4. Calculate moles of whatever is reacting to raise the temperature
  5. delta H = q/moles
  6. -ve sign usually needed
  7. answer to sig figs in 1.
