billy dunlop was tried for julie hoggs murder and found not guilty, 10 years later he was in prison for an assault and confessed to a guard he killed her. He was convicted of purgery but not able to be tried again due to double jeopardy laws and her mum spent 17 years campaigning to overturn the law

successful in 2003 it was overturned and in 2006 he was found guilty and sentenced to minimum of 17 years. the criminal justice act was a result of ann mings successful campaigning and allowed a retrial if new and compelling evidence emerges for serious crimes and since then 13 convictions have been secured

Clare bernal was shot dead by her stalker in 2005 whilst at work her killer was due in court the following week for harrasment
