Carbohydrates and monomers Flashcards

1
Q

What is a monomer and polymer e.g?
What are monosacharides and how are they formed?
Benidicts for reducing and non reducing?

A

Monomers- small molecular unit, AminoAcid/nucleotide/monosacharide. Polymer-large complex molecule from monomers
Monosacharide(glucose/fruc/galag) joined condensation- water released. Hydrolysis use water to break polymer
Non reducing- hydrochloric acid, sodium hydrogen carbonate. neutralize. Red +

Q

What are polysacharide how they made?

A

Q

Starch

A

Starch- Energy storage plant. Chain of gluc of amylase/pectin. Amylase- long unbrached chain of glucose, glycosidic angles coils it compact.
Amylopectin- long branched glucose side branch enzyme break for energy glucose released .
