Carburetor Heat Flashcards
(5 cards)
Carburetor ice
The buildup of ice causing the fuel inlet of the carburetor to become clogged.
Carburetor ice is mostly likely to occur when?
When temperatures are below 70 degrees Fahrenheit or 20 degrees celsius and the relative humidity is about 80%.
However icing can occur even in temperatures as high as 100 degrees and humidity as low as 50%.
Carburetor heat should be used when?
Whenever carb ice is suspected. Don’t use carb heat during high power phases of flight.
Carb heat comes from…
A metal shroud that surrounds the exhaust of the engine, a valve opens and directs this warm air towards the carburetor.
If you see your engine RPM, you should firs suspect….
Carb ice. If after turning the carb heat on, the engine RPM drops more before a slow rise in RPM, then your suspicions of carb ice were correct.
