Cardiomyopathies Flashcards

Q

What are the 3 types of cardiomyopathies?

A
  1. Dilated: most common, mostly familial, dilated LV which contracts poorly/has thin muscle, most common non-familial cause is ethanol
  2. Hypertrophic: most common cause of sudden cardiac death in young, caused by sacromere proteign gene mutations like Troponin T and B-myosin, hallmark is myocardial hypertrophy in the absence of HTN/valvular disease
  3. Restrictive: usually not familial, caused by amyloidosis/sarcoidosis, presents similarly to pericarditis

Q

Tx for cardiomyopathies

A

For dilated and restrictive: cardiac transplant, diuretics, ACE-I, bblockers, digoxin, warfarin

dilated has very poor prognosis

hypertrophic: amiodarone, bblocker, CCB, anticoagulate
