Q

Short term effects of exercise on cardiovascular system?

A

Heart rate, body temperature, cardiac output both increase.
Blood pressure increases to send oxygenated blood quickly to working muscles.

Q

Long term effects of exercise on cardiovascular system?

A

Resting heart rate and blood pressure will drop as the system becomes more efficient
Stroke volume + cardiac output increase as heart will be able to contract with more power

Q

What is blood shunting?

A

In exercise, cardiovascular system redistributes blood so more goes to working muscles and less goes to other body organs (the digestive system). This redirection of blood flow is caused by a mechanism (or process) called the vascular shunt mechanism.
