Why did caribbean people want to move to Britain?

A

Life was very hard in Jamaica after thr war
Britain had many free jobs because of the war
Jamaica had been devastated by a hurricane
The British Natuonality Act allowed more migrnats to come to the UK because it meant that all people in the British Empire were allowed to move and work in Britain

What were some positive experiences in Britain?

A

Many of the migrants got jobs such as cleaners, ticket collectors and hospital porters.
The Notting Hill Carnival began in 1959 to show the beauty of Caribbean culture.
Reggae and Calypso music was spread to Britain.
A bus boycott was organised in Bristol to get the country to hire black people to work on busses and it worked.

What were some negative experiences in Britain?

A

Newspapers turned people against the Caribbean migrants.
Caribbean migrants were attacked.
Many laws were made to not allow them into the country.
They were treated badly.
