Caries Management Flashcards
(10 cards)
What are patient level caries risk factors
- Head and neck radiation
- Dry mouth
- Inadequate hygiene
- Deficient exposure to fluoride
- High frequency of sugar intake
What describes low risk status?
Lack of any high caries risk factor and other risk factors are within “Safe” ranges (sugary snacks, hygiene, fluoride exposure)
What described moderate risk status?
Stage where the individual is not deemed to be definitely at Low risk or definitely at high risk of developing new caries lesions or of lesion progression
What describes high risk status?
Presence of any of the high risk facotrs or caregivers with very high caries experience or where the level of several of the lower risk factors that suggests a combo likely to lead to a high risk status
Lesion detection
Implies an objective method of determining whether or not caries disease is present
(visual and radiographic evidence)
Lesion assessment
Which aims to characterize or monitor a lesion once it has been detected
What are intraoral level caries risk factors?
- Hyposalivated/Gross indicators of dry mouth
- PUFA (Exposed pulp, ulceration, fistula, abscess)- dental sepsis
- Thick plaque
- Caries experience
- Exposed root surfaces
Relationship between presence of plaque and caries risk is complex because it depends on the
presence of cariogenic bacterial species
Restoration margins are susceptible to
recurrent decay
Dentin demineralizes at what pH?
6.5
