Carlsson evaluation Flashcards

1
Q

Generalisability

A

W - the Sz patients that were used in these studies were usually in acute episodes when they were in the study, this could mean that generalisability is lowered as the study can’t be used on people with chronic SZ as they may respond differently to drugs.

Q

Application

A

S - the review has lead to the development of new antipsychotic drugs, some of which are still being developed to this day. they have reduced side effects and affect other NT like serotonin and glutamate.

W - It has been almost a decade since this research has come out and they are not close to curing SZ with drugs

Q

Validity

A

W - Carlsson was involved in 14 of the 33 studies that were included in this review, this could show a bias to the theory that he is showing and may only choose the research that supports the hypothesis.

S - PET scans are an objective measure which increases the validity of the study

W - this review was conducted nearly a decade ago which could mean that it is time locked as research and science may have moved on since then

W - ecological validity low due to the research only being conduced in labs, this means that the PPTs may not have the same reaction in real life compared to the research.

Ethics

A

Carlsson did not conduct the experiments so Ethics has no play in the evaluation of the study
