what are strengths of case studies.

A

they enable us to research something that would otherwise be unethical to replicate.
Inexpensive
Both parties are at interest.

what are weaknesses of case studies.

A

low reliability, cannot be replicated to test the consistency of findings.
they have low internal validity - extraneous variable ie epilepsy that are not controlled for and could be a cause of behaviour.

A

Had fallen off his bike, banged his head, developed saviour epilepsy. had his hippocampus removed and lost the ability to form new episodic memories and semantic memories despite being able to recall his childhood memories (just not memories years before the operation) whilst his procedural memories and IQ were still intact. anterograde not being able to form new memories and retrograde amnesia losing previous memories.
