the legislature, or lawmaking group, in the government of England. Parliament is the law
making body in England that passed many of the King’s taxes.

group of people without them being represented in the government. American Patriots held this
viewpoint.

to refuse to buy, use, or participate in (something) as a way of protesting. A way colonists
protested British taxes and controls.
boycott
or search warrants authorized British officers to search any house for smuggled
goods without specifying either the house or the goods. Colonists saw this as a violation of their rights.

To revoke or rescind, especially by an official or formal act. To cancel a law. The king
repealed some of the taxes passed when the colonies protested.

independence from Great Britain. This is considered the birthday of the U.S.
