Carrier inspection
- mildew
- punctures
- tearing
3 factors for the position of the carrier
- the treat
- the individual
- the unit equipment worn
recommended cleaning
- interval no more than 6 months
- when personnel caught an infectious disease
- when the mask is received from stores or returned to stores
- as required by medical officer
- when you have been in an contaminated area
Procedure for cleaning protective mask
- remove canister
- bath the mask in a disinfectant solution
- rinse thoroughly with clean water
- the disinfectant must pass through the cleaning device
- dry the mask with a clean cloth
- check the valves are in place
- leave to dry.
Purpose of the C4 Mask
1. protect eyes, nose throat and skin Protects agents: a. chemical and biological b. radioactive particles greater than 0.3 microns c. smoke screen grenades d. riot control agents
No designed for C4 Mask
- produce oxygen
- protect against toxic vapors (TIMS)
- tritium and noble gasses (helium, neon, argon, krypton, xeon, radon)
- protect against carbon monoxide
Problems with C4 Mask
- glasses
- beard
3, cold - shape of face.
size mask
- CBRN Mask sizing tool
2. by position of the eyes.
Biological Agent
micro organisms that cause distress in humans, plants or animals.
Biological Warfare
the deliberate employment of biological agents to produce diseases or death in humans, animals, destroy vegitation, or deteriorate certain material. it also designates defensive measures against such agents.
3 classes of biological agents
- backteria humans plants and animals by means of invading the tissues to cause disease.
- viruses - simplest type of micro organism, lack a system for their own metabolism. not sensitive to antibiotics, may be treated by anti-virals.
- Toxins - chemicals of natural origin produced by an animal plant or microbe.
