Q

What was Berko and Brown’s study and findings?

A

Brown spoke to a child who referred to a child who said ‘fis’ instead of fish. Brown replied using ‘fis’ and the child said, ‘No, fis’. Brown reverted back to saying fish and the child said ‘Yes, fis’
Babies don’t hear themselves in the same way that they hear others - no amount of correctness could change this

Q

What was Richman, Miller and LeVine’s study?

A

Compared middle class US mothers and Gusii mothers of Kenya. Gusii mothers rarely make eye contact with their children and only respond to child vocalisations if children are in disress. Both acquired language at the same rate.
Gusii mothers follow the beliefs that babies can’t understand speech so it’s senseless to talk to them.
