2
Q

why do animal/plant cells divide?

A

they do it to grow and replace dead cells instead of making whole new organisms.

13
Q

structure of a bacterial cell (and what does each thing do):

A

cell wall (supports and provides structure to the cell), cell membrane (controls which substances pass in and out of the cell), ribosomes (where proteins are made), cytoplasm (jelly like substance where the chemical reactions take place), circular strand of dna (contains genes that they need to survive), plasmids (they are extra genes that give it antibiotic resistance) and flagella (propels the bacteria).

16
Q

name the two microscopes:

A

light (limited by the wavelength of light) and electron microscopes (better as they are limited by the wavelength of electrons)

17
Q

magnification equation:

A

magnification = image size/object size

18
Q

what are stem cells?

A

they are completely undifferentiated and have the capacity to specialise into any type of cell

19
Q

embryonic stem cells…

A
  • are found in early human embryos
  • can differentiate into any type of cell
20
Q

adult stem cells…

A
  • are found in bone marrow
  • can only differentiate into different types of blood cells.
