Cell membranes (Parts Of The Specification Missed) Flashcards
(7 cards)
- How does the cell membrane appear under the electron microscope?
as a double line.
What happen to the extracellular sides of the protein?
The extracellular sides of the proteins are glycosylated to form a glycocalyx.
draw a simple diagram to illustrate the fluid mosaic model including the labels: phospholipid bilayer, proteins, hydrophilic pores/channels (in some proteins), glycoproteins

How does water move through the plasma membrane?
Movement of water through the plasma membrane via aquaporins, protein channels specialised for water transport.
What is cotransport?
Cotransport is a type of facilitated diffusion in which two substances are simultaneously transported across a membrane by one protein, or protein complex which does not have ATPase activity
What is phagocytosis?
Phagocytosis is where a large particle may enter the cell, become enclosed by a membrane to form a vesicle and be transported through the cytoplasm
Draw a diagram to illustrate phagocytosis
